Japan: A Japanese cohort study has found that only approximately 5% of children with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) received automated external defibrillator (AED) pad application before emergency medical services arrived. Early automated external defibrillator (AED) pad application was associated with higher odds of 1-month survival with favorable neurological outcomes. AED pad application was more common when cardiac arrest occurred at school and when bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) had already been initiated. The findings suggest that early AED pad application may improve outcomes after pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with schools emerging as key locations for timely AED use.
