The annual festival sees local morris men travel from village to village in Saddleworth, performing traditional dances and carrying the 13ft rushcart. Organised by the Saddleworth Morris Men, the event has been running since 1975, but the tradition itself dates back much further. The official Rushcart Facebook page has more details about the rushcart. “The jockey is chosen from within the ranks of Saddleworth Morris Men based upon how long they have been dancing (or playing) in the side. This year’s Rushcart will involve 28 different morris dancing groups, the most in the event’s history, according to a Facebook post from the Saddleworth Morris Men.
