Penguins honor local high school graduate with memorial scholarship

The Penguins Foundation has honored a high school graduate from the Pittsburgh area with this year's Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship.
The team announced Wednesday that Sydney Wilson, who recently graduated from the Beaver Area High School, has been awarded the scholarship, which is valued at $5,000 and given annually to a Pittsburgh-area student.
AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementDuring her time playing defense and wing for Beaver, Wilson was one of few female athletes at the varsity level.
In addition to playing on her high school team, Wilson played for the RMU Arctic Foxes, the Beaver County Badgers, and the PIHL Girls team.
The Johnson scholarship was created in 1992 and is given annually t0 students with academic excellence, a record of community service and those who show leadership, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude while playing high school hockey.
