A new permanent home for Western Australia’s LGBTIQA+ peak body has received a $100,000 funding boost, helping transform a historic North Perth property into a dedicated community hub. Vincent mayor Alison Xamon said the city had a long history of supporting the LGBTIQA+ community and was proud to establish the organisation’s first home. Rainbow Futures WA chief executive Misty Farquhar said they were aware of the Rainbow Community House service but were not connected in any “formal capacity”. Rainbow Futures operated in its first five years as an unfunded advocacy organisation before becoming the recognised peak body for LGBTIQA+ people in WA. “It’s really exciting to now be recognised for the important work we do as the WA peak body,” they said.
