In the 1920s, it was common slang for bank robbers or safecrackers.
ADVERTISEMENTOnly two employees were inside the State Bank of Davenport when it was robbed on July 27, 1926.
Less than two weeks earlier, three armed men had robbed the First State Bank in Mapleton just 17 miles to the north.
Their suspects were Meloy Brandum, 23, his younger brother Currie Brandum, 18, and Peter Stodolka, 18, all from the Perham, Minn., area.
Newspapers across the Dakotas and Minnesota followed every move of the Meloy Brandum, Currie Brandum and Peter Stodolka following the bank robbery.
