Thousands of passengers have passed through the gates of Cambridge South station since it opened to the public on 29 June. The new rail hub serves Cambridge Biomedical Campus and the city’s rapidly growing southern fringe. It is the first fully Great British Railways branded station and facilitates train services run by Greater Anglia, Great Northern, Thameslink and CrossCountry. The station was funded primarily by a government investment of over £250M, with additional contributions from AstraZeneca, the Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority and the Greater Cambridgeshire Partnership. The station is a net-zero carbon facility featuring a green roof to manage rainwater and wildflower meadows to support biodiversity.
