Prime minister calls for political unity to help ‘kickstart’ social care reform

He will be joined by Baroness Louise Casey, who is leading the Independent Commission on Adult Social Care which will draw up recommendations to deliver a National Care Service.
Meanwhile, new health and social care secretary Yvette Cooper also earmarked social care as a priority in her first speech last week at a nurse leaders event, hosted by the chief nursing office.
Commenting ahead of the speech today, unions, think tanks and organisations representing NHS leaders said they welcomed taking a cross-party approach on social care reform.
“Health service leaders will do all they can to help make any reform of the social care system a success,” said Mr Devane.
Hugh Alderwick, director of policy and research at the Health Foundation, said: “We welcome the prime minister’s commitment to tackle social care reform and use his political capital to do it.
