Speed limit decreases along potion of Pūʻainakō Street Extension in Hilo
[]
Big Island Now
Beginning July 29, the speed limit on a section of Pūʻainakō Street Extension in Hilo was lowered to 45 mph to improve traffic safety.
The speed limit had been 55 mph.
Plans are to permanently establish the reduced speed limit by seeking an amendment to county speed limit schedules.
The new speed limit will be enforced under temporary authority acceptable under county codes until the amendment process is complete.
New speed limit signs were installed along the affected stretch of roadway.
