Objectors today (Wednesday, July 29) gave evidence at a public hearing held by the Planning Inspectorate, which will decide whether to allow the 500MW Light Valley Solar Scheme.

A 500MW battery energy storage system (BESS) is proposed as part of the development, as well as underground cabling to connect the sites to the national grid at Monk Fryston substation.
The proposed solar scheme will provide enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 115,000 homes annually, the applicants say.
