Hartlepool Borough Council is consulting on plans to extend two existing Public Space Protection Orders that cover dog control and alley gating for a further three years. PSPOs are legal powers introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which aim to prevent anti-social behaviour and keep public areas safe. Amanda Napper, councillor and chair of the council's neighbourhoods and regulatory services committee, says the public will get a say on the orders. She explained: "These orders have helped us protect public spaces, promote responsible dog ownership and support communities affected by anti-social behaviour. These gates are designed to block unauthorised access by pedestrians and vehicles, helping reduce anti-social behaviour and improve neighbourhood safety.
