Hebburn-born Terry Joyce became a familiar face thanks to roles in series including Hebburn, Super Gran, Spender and Byker Grove, as well as appearances in Badger, The Machine Gunners, Dramarama and Steel River Blues. Joyce’s work captured the humour and character of the region, often drawing on his Hebburn roots and everyday life on Tyneside. Terry Joyce was chosen as one of three figures to be honoured in this year’s Blue Plaque scheme, which recognises individuals and places that have made a significant contribution to the area’s culture, heritage and community life. Councillor Alan Rice, deputy mayor of South Tyneside, said Joyce’s story captures why the region continues to celebrate him. For many in Hebburn and beyond, Terry Joyce is remembered not just as a face from beloved TV shows, but as the performer who turned everyday North East humour into something worth celebrating on screen.
