Demolition costs on A167 flyover sprial to £31m as council looks for more funding

The A167 flyover has been shut since December 2024 due to concerns that the concrete structure was at risk of collapse.
North East mayor Kim McGuinness also offered to contribute £2.5 million towards the demolition bill.
"It also includes the cost of demolishing Computer House, and the expected cost of securing, making safe and restoring the site following demolition.
Ahead of the start of the Park Lane roundabout closure, Ms Hutchinson told the LDRS that the demolition programme remained on schedule.
“We have been working with local authorities, including Gateshead Council, to help develop proposals ahead of the application deadline.
