Fresh figures published by the Office for National Statistics have revealed a small rise in the number of people living in the city. In mid-2025 St Albans recorded a population of 150,757, a minor rise of 0.02 per cent on mid-2024 (150,722). Meanwhile, Stevenage saw the highest population increase in the county from 91,234 in mid-2024 to 92,081 in mid-2025, a rise of 0.93 per cent. A full list has been published by the ONS for England and Wales which also shows small population increases in Dacorum, North Hertfordshire and Watford. According to the ONS, population growth in England and Wales has slowed to its lowest rate since the Covid-19 pandemic.
