Scottish government energy minister Stephen Gethins.
Scalloway Youth and Community Centre has generated almost all of its electricity using renewable technologies - leaving a government minister “blown away”.
Scottish energy minister Stephen Gethins visited the centre last week as part of a tour of the isles to announce grassroots investment in community energy projects.
Mr Gethins revealed the astonishing figure when speaking to The Shetland Times about the Scottish government's Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (Cares) Community Buildings Fund.
National Lottery Community Fund Scotland chairwoman Kate Still said she was “delighted” to have established this partnership with the Scottish government.
