Today, the AWESOME comes from Jacksonville, Florida. Eleven-year-old Nehemiah Turner has become the first child in the Jacksonville Humane Society’s “Pawsitive Reading” program history to complete 100 volunteer hours. Over more than two years, the straight-A student visited the Florida shelter with his grandmother to read aloud to homeless dogs. The program has two benefits: it strengthens children’s literacy skills while providing a calm, soothing environment for stressed shelter animals. Celebrated by the shelter’s CEO for his dedication and inspiring kindness, Nehemiah has no plans to stop.
