Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has officially banned state employees from using insider information to trade on prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket. The executive order signed on Wednesday follows a federal judge’s preliminary injunction blocking a new, first-of-its-kind Minnesota law targeting prediction markets. Regardless of Trump’s grift, I am taking executive action to reinforce the strong ethical standards we have in Minnesota,” said Walz. Prediction markets have exploded in popularity recently allowing people to wager on outcomes such as elections, sports and world affairs. Walz added that prediction markets raise concerns about gambling addiction, public safety and national security.
