New Rules Target Kids on Social MediaNew York is set to become one of the first U.S. states to require social media users to verify their age before accessing certain platform features.
Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James announced the final rules at the Brooklyn STEAM Center.
“Social media companies, you’re now on notice,” Hochul said.
The measures are designed to curb addictive scrolling habits and improve children’s sleep and mental well-being.
The rules apply only to platforms where users spend at least 20% of their active time on algorithm-curated feeds.
