Azzopardi Group is set to acquire the Arkadia Foodstore supermarket chain in a significant expansion of its food and beverage retailing operations, The Business Picture can confirm. The sale of the supermarket chain was announced by the seller, Mizzi Organisation, in a statement to the market last week. Azzopardi Group controls a range of companies, including some of the biggest names in the local groceries retailing sector such as Azzopardi Fisheries, Miracle Foods and SPAR Malta. It is not known whether Azzopardi Group will continue to operate the outlets under the Arkadia brand, or consolidate them under its other brands. The first Arkadia supermarket opened in Gozo in 2000, expanding to St Julian’s in 2003, Swatar in 2015 and Naxxar in 2024.
