A gas leak in downtown San Rafael Wednesday morning triggered evacuations, a shelter-in-place order and road closures. Police said an accidental gas line rupture happened in the area of Fifth Avenue and B Street. People at 1210 Fifth Ave. were instructed to evacuate toward Mission Avenue or C Street. A shelter-in-place order was issued for Fifth Avenue between A and C streets as well as B Street between Fourth Street and Mission Avenue. Authorities said by 12:30 p.m. crews had stopped the rupture and the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
