Chinese motor supplier Pan-Good Power has begun mass production of axial flux electric motors at its manufacturing base in Lanxi, Zhejiang Province.
Unlike the conventional cylindrical electric motors used in most electric vehicles, axial flux motors use a flatter, disc-shaped design in which the magnetic flux travels parallel to the motor shaft rather than outward from the centre.
Axial flux motors are being deployed in heavy-duty electric trucks and other industrial applications.
Compact design builds on earlier performance breakthroughAccording to Pan-Good Power, its axial flux motor occupies about half the volume and weighs 50% less than a conventional cylindrical motor while delivering comparable output.
Pan-Good Power also says it has filed 1,708 patent applications related to axial flux motor technology.
