I remember being on a fire near Kamloops in 2023 and seeing firefighters go from standard work-a-day firefighting—putting in a planned ignition. Those are obviously really, really tragic outcomes, and there are outcomes that we can avoid if we do some of the work that we need to address the climate crisis and our forest management practices. Often with big tragic events, there’s a sense of “This is when lawmakers, people in power, might actually take action and change things. Canada has been really, really lucky. It’s just really, really cool.
