Campaign to restore grave of forgotten Aberdeen doctor who made lifesaving childbirth discovery
['Kirstie Waterston']
Press and Journal
Gordon’s groundbreaking discovery of the importance of hygiene prompted hostility from medical peers – and ultimately cost him his career in Aberdeen.
Now a medical heritage group in Aberdeen is seeking to remedy this with the restoration of his broken grave at St Nicholas Kirk.
“The heritage society is just trying to recognise the men and women, who have contributed an awful lot to medicine and research in Aberdeen.”
The heritage group linked to the Med-Chi Society at Foresterhill is now keen to raise awareness and funds towards repairing the grave and honour his memory.
To help with the appeal or fundraising, the heritage group at Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society can be contacted online or 01224 437104.
