Washington State Human Rights Commissioner Han Tran, who has accused Israel of “genocide” and argued that antisemitism is being used to shield the Jewish state from criticism, appears to have been renewed for another term on the state panel just weeks after Commissioner Luc Jasmin resigned amid an antisemitism scandal. Tran also played a central role in the Human Rights Commission’s response to a University of Washington report documenting antisemitism experienced by Jewish students. On April 17, 2025, the Human Rights Commission adopted an antisemitism resolution championed by Tran. While the measure condemned Jew-hatred, it also declared that “criticism of Israeli policies, opposition to Zionism or advocacy for Palestinian human rights do not inherently constitute antisemitism.” Bob Ferguson, who is responsible for appointing members of the commission, said after Jasmin’s resignation that he would soon fill the vacancy.
