The Athletics announced All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers underwent successful surgery following his torn meniscus Tuesday, but didn't explicitly rule him out for the remainder of the season. The Athletics are yet to announce a timeline for Langeliers' return following the surgery, per MLB.com's Martín Gallegos, just days after manager Mark Kotsay said the surgery would knock the first-time All-Star out for the remainder of the year. Langeliers' return likely wouldn't do much for the A's at the moment, as they have arguably been the worst team in baseball since the beginning of July. His 127 wRC+ ranks third in MLB, only behind fellow All-Star catchers Dillon Dingler and Drake Baldwin. The A's also called up Brian Serven following Langeliers' injury, and he will serve behind Heim as the backup.
