Chandigarh: Punjab University has announced a compensation package of ₹16 lakh and a government job for the brother of PhD scholar Jyoti, who died after being electrocuted on the university campus.
The decision comes in the wake of widespread student protests demanding justice, accountability and financial support for the bereaved family.
Rs 16 Lakh Compensation to familyVice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig met Jyoti's family to express condolences and assured them of the university's full support.
Under the relief package, the family will receive ₹5 lakh from the Vice-Chancellor's Relief Fund and ₹11 lakh through the Dean Students' Welfare (DSW) office, taking the total compensation to ₹16 lakh.
The administration has assured that an independent inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the electrocution and identify any negligence.
