SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WNYT) — Schenectady Police said Detective Timothy Higgins has died after a long battle with cancer, ending nearly 16 years of service to the city. Higgins died during the overnight hours of July 27 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, according to the Schenectady Police Department. “Detective Higgins devoted nearly sixteen years of his life to protecting and serving the people of Schenectady. The department said the Higgins family has received strong support from the community, fellow officers and first responders across the region. A public GoFundMe set up by the Schenectady Police Department PBA will help support his wife and three young children.
