Cllr Ayyub Patel, of Rumworth, has raised concerns about maintenance at Heaton Cemetery and the New Muslim Cemetery. A £350,000 investment led to the creation of a nine-person cemetery maintenance team focused on these sites. "In recognition of the challenges facing cemetery maintenance, the Council approved an additional £350,000 annual investment in the Greenspace Service in February 2025. "This funding enabled the creation of a dedicated cemetery maintenance team comprising nine staff whose primary responsibility is the upkeep of cemeteries across the borough." Maintenance staff are now visiting cemetery sites more often, with high-footfall areas prioritised for more frequent upkeep.
