Mauritania’s Coalition of the Democratic Opposition (COD) has approved the appointment of Moussa Fall as president of the Commission responsible for overseeing the country’s national dialogue.
Moussa Fall’s nomination was proposed by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani during consultations with political parties and groups.
The choice, however, initially faced reservations from some parties within both the ruling majority and the opposition.
President Ghazouani defended the appointment, citing Fall’s involvement in the preparatory stages of the dialogue and arguing that his experience and familiarity with the process would help ensure continuity.
The national dialogue is expected to address key political and institutional issues in Mauritania, with the oversight commission playing a central role in coordinating its proceedings.
