FIFA World Cup 64-team expansion rubbished by ex-Premier League star

Former Chelsea, Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland midfielder Andy Townsend admits he is ‘not a great fan’ of a 64-team World Cup, which has been raised for discussion in recent weeks.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino opened the door to expanding the World Cup to 64 teams, after the iconic tournament was already increased to 48 teams this summer for the first time.

Infantino told Swiss broadcaster Blue Sport: “When organising a World Cup, it’s important to organise it for the whole world – not just Europe and South America, but effectively the entire word.
Every nation should be allowed to dream of participating in the World Cup.”
