More than two dozen WSU student-athletes visited Kamiak Elementary in July to volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of the Palouse. In addition to preparing for the demands of balancing athletics and academics, student-athletes also participate in team-building exercises and volunteer with community organizations. Student-athletes frequently take part in community service work throughout the year. Members of WSU sports teams participate in the annual Butch’s Bash, which offers local families the chance to play games with student-athletes. The Center for Civic Engagement offers dozens of volunteer opportunities on and off campus, ranging from pen pal programs to spending time at the campus food pantry.
