The British maritime security company Ambrey said a US-owned floating storage tanker there had been hit by a drone, in another potential spread of the Middle East war. The sense of growing chaos in the Middle East was summed up by Sanam Vakil, the director of the Middle East and north Africa programme at the Chatham House thinktank. “Because we don’t know that, we are in uncharted territory not just because of the context of the war this year, but the wider issues in the region,” he said.
