US identifies 5 states for major nuclear fuel cycle innovation campuses

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Utah, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Idaho as potential locations for new Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campuses, marking a significant step in expanding the country’s nuclear fuel cycle capabilities.
Strengthening the full nuclear fuel cycleThe planned campuses are designed to support every stage of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium enrichment and fuel fabrication to the reprocessing and final disposal of used nuclear fuel.
Supporting long-term nuclear growthThe initiative forms part of the DOE’s broader strategy to modernise the United States’ nuclear sector and encourage long-term private investment.
According to the department, the Innovation Campuses are intended to accelerate industrial development while creating new opportunities for regional economic growth.
Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox added: “Utah welcomes the chance to help America reclaim its leadership in civil nuclear energy.
