KU Secures UGC Category-I Status

File photo of Kashmir UnivesitySrinagar- In a major milestone for higher education in Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Kashmir (KU) has been granted the prestigious Category-I status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), making it eligible for enhanced academic, administrative, and financial autonomy under the UGC (Categorisation of Universities for Grant of Graded Autonomy) Regulations, 2018.
Welcoming the development, Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan described the recognition as a defining moment in the University’s academic journey.

Prof. Khan thanked Chancellor Manoj Sinha, Pro-Chancellor Omar Abdullah, and Higher Education Minister Sakina Itoo for their continued support in strengthening higher education in Jammu and Kashmir.
Under UGC regulations, universities with a NAAC score of 3.51 or above are eligible for Category-I status.
