The coinsurance rate for Georgetown University’s student health insurance plan will increase for the first time in at least eight years, doubling the share policyholders pay for some in-network coverage. A university spokesperson said Georgetown’s Student Health Insurance Office guarantees “adequate coverage” for all students. “The office regularly reviews student health insurance options to ensure they best meet the needs of its students, balancing coverage and affordability,” the spokesperson wrote to The Hoya. The increase is particularly significant for graduate students, many of whom no longer qualify for coverage through their parents and instead rely on student health insurance. “So that’s what I suspect is a large part of what is going on with Georgetown’s student insurance.”
