Steve and Kathy Fox were financially sound in the Pacific Northwest following his career in insurance for a large corporation. “No one was hiring, and we had to stop,” Steve recalled. After their move to Deming, they were offered a business venture in 2007 through a longtime friend who had purchased the Chevron gas station at 500 E. Railroad Blvd. “We started selling keychains, coffee mugs and ponchos,” Steve said last week, as he scanned the walls of the Poncho’s showroom, now covered in merchandise. Adding to the crisis, gas prices soared to just below $5 under a new administration in our nation’s capital.
