Two Nassau County Girl Scouts from Floral Park and Carle Place were among 67 young women honored this year with the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouts. The Gold Award recognizes Girl Scouts who identify a problem in their community, organize a team and develop a sustainable solution designed to create a lasting impact. “The 2026 Gold Award Girl Scouts are an extraordinary group of young women, and what they have accomplished goes far beyond the projects they completed,” Girl Scouts of Nassau County CEO Rande Bynum said. Girl Scouts in grades 9-12 begin the Gold Award process by identifying a civic or social issue that is meaningful to them. Katherine’s Gold Award project, “The Americanism Project,” addressed a lack of education and awareness about veterans and military service.
