There was an increase of firefighters that died while on-duty across the country last year. The study from the National Fire Protection Association showed that 83 firefighters died on-duty, or within 24 hours of fighting a fire. That’s up 17 percent compared to 2024. Officials say numbers can fluctuate year-to-year, but overall the number of firefighters who died while on-duty has been going down since the study began 50 years ago.
