Falmouth BID says traders have spent months discussing the issue with MP Jayne Kirkham, Cornwall Council officers and local councillors, but believe there is still no meaningful plan to address the problem. Businesses have also indicated they are willing to explore shared waste facilities to reduce the number of individual bins on the streets. However, Cornwall Council has rejected the idea of using car park space for communal bin storage, citing the need to retain parking spaces, planning constraints and concerns linked to similar schemes elsewhere. Keren Cooksey, manager of Falmouth BID, said: “No one is pretending this is an easy problem to solve, but doing nothing isn’t a solution either.
