Srisailam temple marks Shakambari utsavam with traditional grandeur

Kurnool: The annual Shakambari Utsavam was celebrated with religious fervour at the Sri Bhramaramba Devi Temple in Srisailam on Wednesday on the occasion of Ashada Pournami.
The temple premises were also decorated with an elaborate arrangement of vegetables, reflecting the spiritual significance of the festival.
According to temple tradition, Goddess Shakambari manifested after slaying the demon Durgama, who had concealed the Vedas and caused famine by disrupting Vedic rituals.
The Goddess is believed to have created vegetables, fruits and edible greens to end the famine, earning the name Shakambari.
Temple Trust Board Chairman Pothugunta Ramesh Naidu, Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao, Trust Board members, chief priests, archakas, Vedic scholars, officials and temple staff participated in the celebrations.
