The application for the Lower Wyke Solar Farm was previously refused in June 2025 due to its negative impacts on the natural landscape. Following an appeal and hearing in May 2026, the planning inspector granted planning permission after determining that the project's renewable energy, biodiversity and wider public benefits outweighed the harms. It will be a temporary site, with the land being restored to its original use after up to 40 years of solar farm usage. Marcus Camm, project manager at British Solar Renewables, said: “We are delighted that the Planning Inspectorate has granted planning permission for Lower Wyke Solar Park, recognising the significant benefits the project will deliver for Hampshire and the wider region. BSR will now progress Lower Wyke Solar Park towards delivery, with previous estimations showing the process will take nine months.
