STARKVILLE – Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District plans to ask for roughly $4.7 million more from county taxpayers next fiscal year. In total, SOCSD plans to request $38.4 million next fiscal year, compared to the roughly $33.7 million collected this year. Because of rising property values, the district’s request can be serviced with a tax rate of 61.78, a reduction of 4.17 mills compared to this fiscal year. Typically, a 1-mill decrease, for example, would reduce a homeowner’s tax bill by $10 per every $100,000 of property value. By law, school districts can request up to a 4% increase for operations from the previous year’s collections.
