Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to South Africa, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has strongly condemned the alleged extrajudicial torture and murder of a Nigerian citizen by the South African Police Service (SAPS). His reaction followed what he described as a secretly recorded video showing a Nigerian national allegedly being beaten and tortured to death by South African police officers. “I just watched a secretly recorded video of a Nigerian national being beaten to death by members of the South African Police Service in his home, and I am mortified. According to him, six Nigerians have allegedly been killed in South Africa this year, including three whose deaths he attributed to members of the South African police. Fani-Kayode, however, noted that discussions with South African officials had been productive, saying both sides agreed to de-escalate tensions, strengthen bilateral relations and work together to address the concerns.
