The state of Maryland is taking new steps to address food insecurity and improve access to healthy food options through the launch of nearly $4 million in NourishMD grants.
The initiative, announced by Governor Wes Moore, will support organizations working to expand fresh food availability in communities facing limited access to nutritious food.
By improving the capacity of local food providers, the programme seeks to make fresh food more accessible while supporting community-based businesses and nonprofits.
Earlier phases of the programme focused on helping farmers’ markets, farm stands and local food retailers improve infrastructure, expand operations and adopt technologies that support food access.
By investing in local food infrastructure and community-driven solutions, Maryland aims to create a stronger and more equitable food system.
