Death of a stalwart Met musician RIPnorman lebrecht July 29, 2026The composer, conductor and chorus singer Robert Manno has died at the age of 82, his family has announced. Manno was a baritone in the Met Chorus from 1977 to 2001, and subsequently assistant conductor to James Levine. His wife, the violinist Magdalena Golczewski, was a member of the Met orchestra. Away from the opera house, Manno was music director of the Windham Festival Chamber Orchestra and Catskill Mountain Chamber Orchestra. He won the Ernest Bloch Award as a young man and continued to compose chamber music through his life.
