What was previously called fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is now subsumed under FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorders). To reconsider a few points made above:Alcohol costs the United States more than $240 billion a year, more than the total medical debt in the United States. The United States has become the clear outlier between 2000 and 2021 (left panel), with Canada a close second.
