ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that ongoing reforms to the country’s security architecture will help defeat terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, while expressing confidence that Nigeria is on the path to economic recovery and long-term prosperity.
President Tinubu urged religious leaders to support efforts to restore peace by speaking against violence and encouraging national unity.
He also reiterated that state governors have the constitutional authority to decide whether to return mission schools, recalling that he restored mission schools while serving as governor of Lagos State.
The CBCN president urged the Federal Government to promote fairness in the treatment of all religious groups, consider the return of mission schools where appropriate, and ensure that the 2027 elections are free and transparent.
He told the President that strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions would remain one of the defining legacies of his administration.
