South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail Wessex have introduced a temporary timetable between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids on the West of England line to address safety concerns caused by prolonged extreme hot, dry weather. Trains between Yeovil Junction and Exeter will now run just once every two hours, and most journeys from London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids will take up to 24 minutes longer than usual, with journeys from Exeter St Davids to London Waterloo taking 27 minutes longer than usual. To ensure passenger safety, speed restrictions have been introduced between Tisbury and Honiton - a 60-mile stretch of mostly single track with only six passing loops. Under the amended timetable, services between London Waterloo and Salisbury will continue every 30 minutes, with one train per hour running to Yeovil Junction. Every other hour, that train will continue on to Exeter St Davids.
