East of England Co-op said they have "invested into a range of measures" at their fully cashless self-service branch designed to give customers and full confidence. The branch was opened in June last year featuring no traditional staffed till, and has self-service machines that only accept card or mobile payments instead. Lee Hammond, Profit Protection and Co-op Secure Response Officer for the East of England Co-op said: “Security is a key priority at our Ipswich Station food store, as it is in all our stores, and we've invested in a range of measures to help create a safe and welcoming environment for both colleagues and customers. “At our Ipswich Station store, this includes security barriers at the entrance and exit, 24-hour monitoring through our state-of-the-art alarm receiving centre, and access to body-worn cameras. "Colleagues are also equipped with communication headsets, enabling them to respond quickly to any issues and remain in constant contact with support teams.
