In October 2024, PBS News Hour pondered the alarming rise of autism diagnoses among Somali children in America. In September 2025, researchers from Minnesota Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (MN-ADDM) at the University of Minnesota showed that 1 in 12 (8.26%) eight-year-old Somali children in Minnesota have autism, while overall 1 in 28 (3.6%) of all eight-year-old children in the state are identified with having autism. Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar must mean by Somali cultural enrichment. Twenty-one million dollars is quite enriching for someone who looks like a cousin of Ilhan Omar. I doubt if Omar could have resisted putting her bucket in that culturally enriching stream that was flowing all around her.
