(Horizon Media / BUSAN)—Armenia has been elected one of the vice-chairs of the 49th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee, scheduled to take place in Istanbul from June 27 to July 7, 2027. The election was announced as the Committee concluded its 48th session in Busan, Republic of Korea. During the ten-day gathering, the Armenian delegation participated in discussions concerning new nominations to the World Heritage List and the conservation of already listed cultural and natural properties. The Busan session was held from July 19 to 29. Armenia’s election to the Committee’s leadership gives the country a more visible role within one of the world’s principal institutions for cultural heritage protection.
